Aggregate Types and Equations

What types of aggregates do you handle?
We handle all purpose sand, a-gravel, driveway stone, 3/4 crushed (drainage gravel), chips and dust (patio base), pea stone, large riverstone 2-4" and small riverstone 1-2", bedding sand (for use under interlocking pavers, flagstone and patio stones) and field stone 6-10".

How are aggregates sold?
Most aggregates are sold by the 40 lb. bag or bulk by the yard.

How much do aggregates weigh?
Gravel is the heaviest around 2860 lbs. per cubic yard. All the other aggregates are around 2600 pounds per cubic yard.

What is the volume of a 40 lb. bag of aggregates?
The volume in a 40 lb. bag will vary somewhat, but will generally be around 11 to 12 litres per bag (28.33 litres = 1 cubic foot).

Can I have the aggregates delivered?
Yes, all aggregates can be delivered with our small, 5 yard trucks or our larger 20 yard trucks and combined with any one other bulk material order up to a maximum of 20 yards for $80.00 per delivery in London and surrounding area.

How many yards do I need?
Multiply length in feet, times width in feet, to get the number of square feet. Divide the square feet by 27 and the answer by 12 times the number of inches of product you want to use.

Disposal Procedure and Prices

What can I dispose of at Fishers?
You can dispose of brush, stone or concrete (no steel), leaves, clean fill, grass clippings and sod (soil and grass removed from a lawn).

Do I have to separate disposal items?
Yes, all disposal items must be separated and placed in their appropriate containment area.

What items do you not accept for disposal?
We do not accept steel, concrete containing steel, logs larger than 3" diameter, railroad ties, building materials, and all treated wood.

How much does the disposal cost?

The Types of Payments Accepted

Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, we accept Visa and MasterCard at both of our locations.

Can I pay with an Interac debit card?
Yes, both locations accept payment using a debit card.

Do you ship using C.O.D.?
Yes, orders can be placed by phone with C.O.D. payment terms. When the load is delivered, you will be expected to pay in full by cash or cheque.

What does C.O.D. stand for?
C.O.D stands for Cash (or Cheque) On Delivery.

Do you accept American Express?
No, we do not accept American Express. COD payments may be made by cash or cheque at the time of delivery; Visa, MasterCard, payments can be made when the order is placed or you can pay using a debit card when you place the order in person.

Is delivery available on all products?
Yes, we have delivery available on everything we sell.

What does delivery cost in the London area?
The cost of delivery is $80 for Dorchester and Belmont, $80 per load in the London and surrounding area. Sod and stone delivery is $80 per order. The cost of delivery to Grand Bend via dump truck starts at $150.

How many yards are there in a truck load?
Our smaller trucks hold 5 to 6 yards, depending on product. Our larger trucks can hold 20 yards per load.

How many skids will fit on the sod truck?
The sod truck holds up to 20 skids of sod, flagstone or other skid products. Our sod truck comes with a hitch hiker fork truck to unload and place the skids where needed. The fork truck requires a 10' opening for clearance.

Can a bulk product and a skid product be delivered for the same $80 delivery charge?
No, they would need to be delivered on two separate loads and would be considered two deliveries. For example: the bulk loads delivery charge to London and area is $80; the skid product delivery charge to London and area is $80.

Can we get two products for the same $80 delivery charge?
Yes, provided they can be delivered on the same load. All our trucks are equipped with a division gate to allow containment of two different bulk products.

Can I split a load with a neighbour for one delivery charge?
Yes, provided both deliveries are on the same street and close together.

How far ahead of the desired delivery date should I order?
Usually orders received by noon can be delivered that day. In the busy seasons, it may be wise to order early on the day before delivery is required.

What would the charge be for a delivery to Sarnia?
The normal delivery charge to Sarnia via dump truck starts at $175.

Inquires About Flagstone

Is flagstone returnable?
No, flagstone is not returnable.

How is flagstone sold?
Flagstone is sold by the pound or ton.

What is the weight of a skid of flagstone?
Full skids of flagstone vary in weight from 2 to 2-1/2 tons.

What is the recommended thickness of flagstone to use for a patio?
3/4" to 1" thick flagstone is recommended for patios. Flagstone is not recommended for driveways!

Can I have the flagstone delivered?
Yes, flagstone can be delivered with our sod truck and combined with any other skid order up to a maximum of 20 skids for $80 per delivery in the London and surrounding area. Our sod truck comes with a hitch hiker fork truck to unload and place the skids where needed. The fork truck requires a 10' wide opening for clearance.

How many pounds or ton of flagstone do I need?
Multiply, length in feet, times width in feet, times the thickness of the flagstone in inches, times 13.5 to get the approximate number of pounds required.

How should I prepare the site before laying flagstone?
Remove all old sod, grass, sticks and trash. Level to near grade with A-gravel and top the last 1-2" with chips and dust.

It may be wise to order early on the day before delivery is required.

Questions Regarding Sod

Is the sod guaranteed?
No, sod is sold as is and is not guaranteed.

Is the sod returnable?
No, sod is sold as is and is not returnable.

Should I order the sod in advance?
Yes, it is wise to place your sod order a day or two before you need it. This way we can be sure to have sod on hand to meet your needs. Be careful not to over order as you will be expected to take whatever you have ordered!

What is the size of a roll of sod?
Sod rolls are 2' wide by 5' long. Each roll covers 10 square feet.

How many rolls are on a skid of sod?
A full skid of sod contains 70 rolls.

What is the weight of a roll of sod?
Sod rolls vary in weight depending on moisture content. They can vary from 20 to 40 lbs. per roll.

Can I have the sod delivered?
Yes, sod can be delivered with our sod truck and combined with any other skid order up to a maximum of 20 skids for $80 per delivery in London and surrounding area. Our sod truck comes with a hitch hiker fork truck to unload and place the skids curb side or on the driveway. The fork truck requires a 10' opening for clearance.

How many rolls do I need?
Multiply, length in feet times width in feet divided by 10 = number of rolls required.

How should I prepare the soil before laying sod?
Remove all old sod, grass, sticks and trash. Level to grade and work to 1" depth to allow the new sod to root.

Do I need to roll the ground before laying sod?
No, it is not necessary to roll the ground before laying sod.

Do I need to roll the sod after laying it?
Rolling the sod after laying will help firm up the area, but is not required.

How long and how much must I water the new sod?
New sod must be watered daily for the first two weeks. In extreme hot and dry conditions, it may be necessary to water beyond that every few days until the weather changes. Water daily until saturated.

When should I mow the new grass?
Wait until the sod has rooted firmly to the soil. (This usually will be about three weeks after laying sod.)

Should I fertilize the new sod?
Wait until the sod can be cut, before fertilizing. Follow normal fertilizing recommendations for spring and fall applications.
